Event Description:
Art Foundation 12+ (For ages 12–18)
Current term 13th April- 18th May Mondays | 4:30 – 6pm
A fun and dynamic course designed for young people, offering an inspiring introduction to the fundamentals of drawing, painting, and creative practice. Perfect for those who love art at school, want to build confidence, or are thinking about developing their skills further.
Sessions are now just £7.50, thanks to support from Heart of Bucks. Their funding allows us to subsidise the price, making this great offer more accessible.
Over the weeks, young people will:
- Explore the fundamentals of perspective, drawing in proportion, line and form, composition, texture, and colour theory.
- Begin by drawing and painting what they see, building observational skills.
- Discover well-known art movements such as Cubism and Surrealism.
- Learn about different approaches to art including Abstraction, Collage, Frottage, and Printmaking.
- Start developing their own creative voice through set projects or personal ideas.
Classes are structured to support complete beginners as well as those with some experience, with the flexibility to grow at each student’s own pace.
About the tutor:
Derek Ogbourne is a widely exhibited practicing artist with 25 years’ teaching experience up to MA level, including painting, drawing, video, installation, and sculpture. A graduate of the Slade School of Fine Art (BA & MA), Derek’s work has been shown internationally, and his film Bison Hill (2022) won multiple awards at film festivals worldwide. He will also represent the UK at the Sydney Biennial in 2026.
