Event Description:
As part of the Buckinghamshire Culture Open Weekends 2026 and this year’s county-wide theme, “Roots, Rhythms & Rituals,” Beats, Bars & Belonging invites young people to explore identity, culture, creativity, and community through music technology and performance. Inspired by the wider celebration of heritage, cultural expression, and shared experiences taking place across Buckinghamshire, this interactive summer workshop provides a space for young people to create, collaborate, and express themselves through music.
Participants will take part in three hands-on creative sessions:
Roots – Music Production
Create original beats and tracks using digital music production software while exploring personal influences, cultural sounds, community identity, and musical heritage.
Rhythms – DJ Workshop
Learn DJ skills including mixing, transitions, and live performance techniques while discovering how rhythm and music bring people together across cultures and communities.
Rituals – Vocal Recording
Record vocals, spoken word, lyrics, affirmations, and collaborative performances using professional recording equipment, exploring storytelling, self-expression, and the role of music in everyday life.
Through music production, DJ-ing, and vocal performance, participants will develop digital, creative, and communication skills while building confidence, teamwork, and a stronger sense of belonging. The workshop celebrates cultural diversity and contemporary music culture, encouraging young people to explore the sounds, stories, and traditions that shape who they are and how they connect with others.
Suitable for young people aged 13 - 17 years old.
No previous experience required.
