Event Description:
In 1938, the Government Code and Cipher School moved to Bletchley and took over the grounds and Mansion house. Over the years they were based at Bletchley Park, the site grew to accommodate up to 9,000 people working there. Huts and blocks were built as places of work around the beautiful backdrop of the lake and Mansion. Today the site is open as a museum to discover the incredible achievements of Britain’s World War Two Codebreakers, in the place where it happened.
On Sunday 21 September, Bletchley Park is opening its doors for free to families to explore the shapes and details of the buildings at Bletchley Park, including the Mansion, codebreaking huts and blocks, through our interactive trail. Find out how the site grew to become an intelligence factory employing nearly 9,000 people. Discover the buildings these people worked in and the incredible machines they operated. Along the way, have a go at some hands-on activities, including using colourful shapes to create your own designs for stained-glass windows like those found in the Mansion and finding out about how Bletchley Park had a maze and building your own using Lego bricks.
Free tickets need to be booked via bletchleypark.org.uk at timed entry slots.
