Event Description:
Are you more of a poet or a critic or a blogger? Whoever you are, take your skills back in time to explore the stories of Black British ballet dancers. Taking images and quotes from the exhibition as our base, we’ll do some activities together before you get to write your masterpiece - or silly piece! Suitable for: Adults
A Rekindle supported event during Black History Month. Into the Light: Pioneers of Black British Ballet exhibition brings together archive photography, film, newspaper articles and posters alongside new video and audio interviews to trace the history of black British ballet from the 1940s to the present day. The exhibition has toured 25 libraries across Britain, finishing at High Wycombe Library this November 2025. The Black British Ballet project is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Paul Hamlyn Foundation, Arts Council England, Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities’ Windrush Day Fund and the Black Funding Network. It is delivered in partnership with English National Ballet, Birmingham Royal Ballet, The Royal Ballet, Royal Academy of Dance, Dance Theatre of Harlem and Central School of Ballet and Kidbrooke Community Hub.
