Visit WebsiteEvent Description:
Milton Keynes Museum will host the British Artist Blacksmiths Association’s (BABA) Annual Conference for 2026 this August, bringing together some of the UK’s most talented artisan blacksmiths for a weekend of live demonstrations, creativity and hands-on experiences.
As part of this special event, skilled blacksmiths from across the country will work together at the forge to create a unique decorative railing panel specially designed for Milton Keynes Museum.
Inspired by the Museum and the local area, the piece will be crafted before visitors’ eyes using a blend of traditional forging methods and contemporary artistic techniques.
Watch sparks fly, hear the ring of hammer on anvil and discover the skill, precision and artistry behind one of Britain’s oldest crafts.
Young visitors aged seven to 15 will also have the opportunity to try blacksmithing for themselves under expert supervision, creating their own forged keepsake to take home (advance bookings only).
This rare public event offers a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the British Artist Blacksmith Association’s annual gathering, giving visitors the chance to meet professional blacksmiths, learn about the craft and witness the creation of a permanent artwork for the Museum.
All of the usual Museum attractions will also be available to enjoy.
Pay once and visit the Museum as often as you like, for free, for a whole year.
