Event Description:

Create a mixed media artwork - a wooden ‘desk sitter’ - inspired by the historic Chesham photographs held by Chesham Library, and from shared memories, maps, art supplies and local heritage and ephemera.

| Join artist Emily Brown from Rather Nice Art for a creative mixed media workshop exploring the history, architecture, old photos and memories of Chesham.Participants will use reproductions of historic photographs, maps and printed materials inspired by old Chesham (some of which can be found in the library and Chesham Museum archives) to create their own layered artwork on wood panels or blocks using collage, old photos, paint, words, image transfer techniques and mixed media materials. The workshop celebrates local heritage and storytelling through arts and crafts, encouraging participants to reflect on how places, traditions and community memories are preserved, shared and reimagined over time.Suitable for beginners, families, teens and adults. All materials provided, but you are welcome to bring a few of your own photos or collage bits if you like.Participants will leave with their own unique artwork - a chunky, freestanding, decorated ‘desk topper’ - inspired by Chesham’s past and present. There may be an exhibition of completed artworks at some point. There are only 10 places, so please book onto the session asap by speaking with staff at Chesham Library. Children must be accompanied by an adult. For children and adults, age 10+
