Event Description:
MEN WALKING AND TALKING (MWAT) is a national peer led support group founded by Dan Reid in 2021 following Dan’s own issues with mental health. It operates to bring men together in a safe space and to end the stigma around men’s mental health by supporting each other. With around 80 groups around Great Britain (with more in the pipeline), in 2022 we became a CIC and a member of the NCPS. We are signatories of the armed forces covenant with approx. 50% of those attending our walks a part of that community.
Hi, my name’s Scott and I’m the Walk Leader for Aylesbury MWAT. We meet weekly in the Oakfield Rd Car Park and we’re open to all men 18+. Our meeting time is every Thursday at 7pm and we walk for an hour; well behaved dogs welcome! There are no fees, no registration and no pressure to talk about mental health, we’re just a group of blokes walking, talking and supporting.
Men’s mental health is in crises with 75% of all suicides being men, and suicide being the leading cause of death for men under 50. This idea that “big boys don’t cry” and that we need to “man up and be strong” is literally killing us. Our message to you is “it’s ok to say you’re not okay!”
Asking for help, is being strong. Supporting your brother is being manly!
So join this fraternity where you ain’t heavy, you’re my brother.
