Event Description:

We are delighted to present our Midwinter Recital in the ample acoustics of Tring’s splendid High Street Baptist Church. We will play a programme of great music for the treasured combination of violin and piano featuring major works by Beethoven, Bach and César Franck. Beethoven’s eighth sonata has earned the nickname ‘Champagne due to its bubbly opening and generally positively joyous nature. The arrangement of Bach’s “Jesu, Joy../by the legendary Dame Myra Hess is well loved and always welcome. Bach’s first sonata for violin and keyboard is sublime music reminiscent of his later Passions and Cantatas; it is notable for being a rare early example of a sonata where both violin and keyboard are totally equal. We end with a most sensuous and glorious piece - Franck’s creation is one of the finest sonatas for violin and piano ever written.
