Event Description:

Don’t miss the Wooburn Singers’ gloriously joyful and festive concert on Friday, December 20th, at 7:30pm at the beautiful St Mary and All Saints Church in Beaconsfield. It’s the perfect evening to immerse yourself in the rich sounds of the season.

Vaughan Williams: Fantasia on Christmas Carols - This beloved work is a moving, single-movement setting that interweaves beautiful English folk carols, including “The truth sent from above,” “Come all you worthy gentlemen,” and the “Sussex Carol” (On Christmas night all Christians sing). It’s an atmospheric and quintessential English piece that evokes a deep sense of tradition and Christmas wonder.

Finzi: In Terra Pax - Gerald Finzi subtitles this work a “Christmas Scene,” and described it as “the Nativity becomes a vision seen by a wanderer on a dark and frosty Christmas Eve in our own familiar landscape.” Featuring soprano and baritone soloists, the music beautifully juxtaposes the familiar Biblical account (St. Luke’s Gospel) with the evocative poetry of Robert Bridges, creating a radiant and intimate miniature masterpiece of peace and goodwill.

The evening will conclude with a selection of well-loved Christmas music for choir and audience, ensuring everyone leaves feeling utterly festive and in the mood for Christmas!
