About
The Aylesbury Ring is a 32-mile circular walking route encircling the county town, offering a wonderfully varied journey through tranquil countryside, characterful villages and the rolling landscapes of the Aylesbury Vale. Although never far from the town, the trail feels distinctly rural, winding through woods, meadows, arable fields, canal towpaths and riverbanks, with frequent views towards both the Chilterns and the open vale.
What You’ll Experience
Along the route you’ll pass through a series of Buckinghamshire’s prettiest villages and market towns, each with its own charm and welcoming places to pause. The landscape shifts constantly—from peaceful pastureland to shaded woodland and wide, open farmland—making it an ideal choice for walkers who enjoy diversity underfoot. There are numerous friendly pubs and cafés along the way, perfect for a well-earned break.
A Brief History
The Aylesbury Ring took shape in the early 1980s when local ramblers identified a potential long-distance circuit. The idea grew, and by 1989 the route was included in The Vale of Aylesbury Walker. Between 1989 and 1993, Buckinghamshire County Council formally adopted and waymarked the Ring, making several refinements along the way.
The official launch followed in 1993, with updates in 2005 to reflect changes in local infrastructure. Since 2011, Aylesbury & District Ramblers have continued to survey, maintain and improve the trail, completing a major waymarking refurbishment in 2016.
