About
Starting at Wendover’s Clock Tower, this walk gradually climbs towards Coombe Hill along chalk paths that form part of the ancient Ridgeway, one of Britain’s oldest routes. As the path rises along the Chiltern escarpment, it opens up wide views across the Aylesbury Vale, eventually reaching the Boer War Monument, a landmark notable for being the first war memorial in Britain to list the fallen regardless of rank.
From the hilltop, walkers can take in panoramic views stretching across Buckinghamshire and into Oxfordshire before following the route back towards Wendover along a bridleway. The return passes through beautiful beech woodland, especially striking in autumn, before descending back to the town and its historic streets.
