About
This 30-minute walk around Wendover begins at the Clock Tower and follows historic streets that reveal the town’s long history, once described in 1533 by John Leland as a timber-built settlement. Along the route are some of the oldest parts of the village, including Coldharbour’s 17th-century thatched cottages on the ancient Icknield Way, Bank Farm with structures dating back to the 15th century, and the old watermill recorded as early as the Domesday Book.
The walk continues past Georgian houses, former farmhouses, churches, pubs, and market spaces that illustrate Wendover’s development as a trading village. Sites such as the Manor Waste, once used for fairs and livestock markets, and historic inns like the Red Lion and White Swan reflect the town’s role as a stop for travellers and traders, while buildings such as the Old School and Baptist Church show how the community evolved through the centuries.
